On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the Jolly Cream Foundation held a community conversation regarding Health Equity in Charles County. The event was led by Gloira Jolly of BRSC Community Center to understand the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Affected by the environment of Charles County West.
The Charles County Board of Commissioners that were present includes; Commissioners President Rueben Collins, Commissioners Thomasina Coates, Commissioner Vice Ralph Patterson, and Dr. Abney. of Charles County Dept. of Helath.
Charles County West (Bryans Road), MD is a small and charming community with a tight-knit atmosphere that makes it easy for residents to feel at home. With its proximity to both Washington D.C. and Virginia, Bryans Road provides access to the big city amenities while still having a quiet suburban feel. Based on data, Charles County West encompasses, Indian head, Pomonkey, Pomfret, Ripley, Pisgah, Rison, Marbury, Ironsides, Nanjemoy, Campton, Riverside, Welcome, and Hill Top.
At the main intersection of Bryans Road, you will find the only stop-light in town and Food Lion, the only grocery store in town. There are various gas stations, liquor stores, and assorted fast-food venues that serve the community. Local residents attended the meeting with many questions and requests to be answered by the commissioners concerning the growth and attention given to the Bryans road sector.
The Charles County Board of Commissioners will continue to attend future community meetings with hopes of improvements in the lives of the people and area in Charles County West.
